  1. Second Line Technical Support Engineer (Linux / PHP)

    Reports to: Technical Director
    Location: e4education Ltd, Lynch Wood, Peterborough, PE2 6LR
    Hours: Full Time – 9am to 5.30pm

    About The Role

    We are seeking a talented individual with excellent communication skills to join our expanding  team as a second line technical support engineer. You will be working within a team of experienced software engineers developing an exciting new product in the education sector, supporting clients as they implement an online software platform within their organisation which includes the configuration and installation of remote equipment and imports/maintenance of client data using pre-existing tools.

    As part of this role you will be responsible for handling second tier support requests either directly from nominated client contacts or escalated by the first tier support. This role requires a strong working knowledge of Linux server administration, SQL, PHP and XML with an awareness of Web Services (SOAP).

    This is a client facing role and travel to client locations throughout the UK may be required on occasions. A working knowledge of the education sector would be beneficial but not essential.

    Please note due to the role operating within the education sector and working with client data, successful applicants would be required to undergo a check with the criminal records bureau (CRB).

    Key Responsibilities

    • Coordinating the implementation of the software platform with clients (including timely delivery of key milestones)
    • Supporting clients with any issues that occur relating to the implementation
    • Dealing with second tier support requests (either directly from clients or escalated by the first tier support team)
    • Liaising with the development team to resolve any issues/bugs that are identified
    • Supporting the field sales team by sharing knowledge and experience to address client requests
    • Communicating with clients verbally, face-to-face and via email.

     

    Key Skills Required

    • Linux Server Administration
    • Understanding of SQL(preferably with MySQL), XML, PHP, (X)HTML, CSS & JavaScript
    • Spoken and written English

     

    Work Experience

    • Prior experience in a software support role would be advantageous
    • Experience of exchanging data between systems would be highly desired
    • Working knowledge of the UK education sector would also be advantageous
